Why entrepreneurship is flourishing in the United States

On 24 January 2011, the Rafael del Pino Foundation hosted the first Keynote Lecture of the year, delivered by Alan D. Solomont, entitled "Why entrepreneurship is flourishing in the United States".

Alan D. Solomont stated: "There are two factors that explain the success of entrepreneurship in the United States. The first is cultural. America loves entrepreneurs. My country recognises and rewards them more than any other country in the world. The second is what I call a political architecture, backed by the administration, of laws, relationships and regulation, including strong intellectual property protection, that encourages entrepreneurship and the development of entrepreneurial activity.

Alan D. Solomont argued that the US economy has not yet fully recovered: "We have not yet reached the level of economic activity necessary to bring down unemployment rates. But keep in mind that, as Lawrence Summers, former economic advisor to President Obama, has said, it was not automatic market stabilisation mechanisms that helped us out of the crisis. The decisive factor lies in the actions of the government and the leadership of President Obama and his team.
