The answer

Mario Alonso Puig

On 10 December 2012, the Rafael del Pino Foundation organised the presentation of the book "La respuesta" by Mario Alonso Puig.

Mario Alonso Puig is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a member of the Leadership Council of the World Economic Forum (Davos) and winner of the ASEDEF award for best communicator in the field of health.

In this book Mario Alonso Puig talks to young people about what can really give our lives direction, authenticity and meaning.

Mario Alonso Puig argues that every question is an invitation to use our intelligence to penetrate the reality of things and discover the truth that lies within them. There are questions that not only challenge our intellect, but also the totality of our being. It is these questions that make us reflect deeply on our way of being and living.

According to Dr Alonso Puig, the answer is a proposal about what can truly give our lives orientation, authenticity and meaning. Only when we align ourselves with our true nature can we flourish as people and reach our fullness.

We can no longer continue to be people who just do and hardly think. If we want to move forward, we have to think, lest we end up where we would never have wanted to be. Thinking with rigour is thinking with scope, breadth and depth, and this kind of thinking is closely related to the art of questioning.

The book talks about how we all have great innate wisdom that we hardly use. To discuss the issues that underpin what makes us fully human is also to delve into understanding and discovering what makes us happy.

The true answer to our deepest questions only emerges from that space where our innermost self, by embracing the you, allows the we to be born. True wisdom is first and foremost a shared wisdom.
