Closing of the 5th Junior Achievement National Mini Enterprise Competition

Programme in collaboration with the Junior Achievement Foundation in Spain

On 14 April 2011, the Rafael del Pino Foundation Auditorium hosted the closing ceremony and prize-giving ceremony of the V National Competition of Educational Mini-Companies organised by Junior Achievement in Spain. This competition, which is sponsored by the Rafael del Pino Foundation, aims to awaken the entrepreneurial spirit in young people through the start-up of a company, so that they can learn about all the stages that a business project has to go through before it finally becomes a reality.

The Rafael del Pino Foundation has supported this Junior Achievement Spain programme by sponsoring six participating schools: Colegio Corazón Inmaculado; Colegio Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas; IES Joaquín Rodrigo; IES Luis Buñuel; Colegio Nazaret; and Colegio Montserrat.

In total, 50 schools from 6 Autonomous Communities (Andalusia, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla León, Catalonia, Madrid, Valencia and the Canary Islands) took part in the competition, setting up more than a hundred mini-companies and involving 1100 students.

The winners of this 5th National Mini Enterprise Competition were:

First Prize, for the mini-company "For you & Others", from the Montserrat School in Barcelona, whose product consisted of a timer that monitors the consumption of water used in the shower.

-Second Prize, for the "JOT POP" team, from the Colegio Nuestra Señora de Loreto, Madrid, who have produced a thermal bag that stores heat, after being introduced in a microwave, for therapeutic use.

Third Prize, which went to the mini-company "ILANS", from the Colegio Paraíso Sagrados Corazones, Madrid, whose project is based on an elastic mechanism to facilitate the handling of chopsticks used in Asian gastronomy.
