On 18 February, the Rafael del Pino Foundation and the CYD Foundation organised the Cycle of Conferences "Europe in the face of university changes", given by the Minister of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany, Annette Schavan. The conference was entitled "The Role of Universities in the Knowledge Society. Research and teaching in the 21st century".

The Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, Cristina Garmendia, closed the event that took place at the Rafael del Pino Foundation.

With this series, which brings together government and university leaders in the field of higher education from European countries and the United States, the two foundations aim to promote the analysis of reforms aimed at better adapting universities to their new environment, as well as the analysis of university management and teaching policies. The cycle was inaugurated on 26 June 2008 by Ján Figel, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth.
