The new multinationals

Mauro F. Guillén and Esteban García-Canal

On 26 June 2012, the Rafael del Pino Foundation hosted the presentation of the book ".The new multinationals. Spanish companies in the world". The play, written by Mauro F. Guillén y Esteban García-Canal and published by Ariel, studies the common factors among some Spanish companies that embody a new paradigm: that of growth based on the ability to organise, manage, execute and network, not just on technology or marketing. The authors analyse these strategies to offer the keys to the success of Spanish companies in the global market.

Mauro F. Guillén is the Director of the Joseph H. Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, a research and teaching programme combining business administration and international relations, and Professor of International Management at the Wharton School, where he holds the Dr. Felix Zandmann Chair. Trained as a sociologist and political economist, he has studied multinational companies and the globalisation process for twenty years. Mauro F. Guillén has been Rafael del Pino Professor and has received the IV Fundación Banco Herrero Award for the best Spanish researcher in the social sciences under 40 years of age.

Esteban García-Canal is Professor of Business Organisation at the University of Oviedo and Member of the Business and Humanism Institute of the University of Navarra. He advises and teaches specific courses to companies and public bodies on issues related to the formation of strategic alliances, organisational design and the development of internationalisation and growth plans in general. She has published more than seventy articles in specialised scientific journals.
