Eduardo Punset

On 1 October 2013, the Rafael del Pino Foundation organised the Keynote Lecture by Eduardo Punset entitled "Life and science merge in the most exciting story" on the occasion of the presentation of his work "El sueño de Alicia" published by Ediciones Destino.

Eduardo Punset is a lawyer, economist and science communicator. He holds a degree in Law from the University of Madrid and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of London. He has been an economics editor for the BBC, director of the Latin American edition of the weekly magazine The Economist and economist for the International Monetary Fund in the United States and Haiti.

As a specialist in the study of the impact of new technologies, he has been an advisor to COTEC, advisor professor of International Marketing at ESADE, president of the Bull Institute of Technology, professor of Innovation and Technology at the Instituto de Empresa, president of Enher, deputy director general of Economic and Financial Studies at Banco Hispanoamericano and coordinator of the Strategic Plan for the Information Society in Catalonia.

He played an important role in the transition to democracy and in Spain's opening up to the outside world, especially during his time as Minister for Relations with the European Communities. He participated in the establishment of the State of Autonomies as Minister of Finance of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and as President of the European Parliament delegation in Poland, he oversaw part of the process of economic transformation of the Eastern European countries after the fall of the Wall.

He is the author of several books on economic analysis and social reflection. He is currently professor of "Science, Technology and Society" in the Faculty of Economics at the Chemical Institute of Sarrià (Ramon Llull University). He is also director and presenter of the science popularisation programme Redes on TVE, president of the scientific audiovisual content production company Grupo Punset Producciones and author of several books on scientific knowledge.
