On 31 March 2011, the Rafael del Pino Foundation hosted the round table "The low-carbon economy: Business opportunity and UK-Spain collaboration", organised by Fundación Entorno and The Prince of Wales' EU Corporate Leaders Group. This meeting, which was attended by representatives of a number of Spanish multinational companies, was attended by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
This event is in addition to those held in the past by the Rafael del Pino Foundation in order to situate the benchmarks of the public debate on climate change. During the fourth quarter of 2008, the Foundation held its last series of conferences on this subject, entitled "Climate change under debate", with the participation of, among others, Mario Molina, winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1995, Richard S. Lindzen, Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Nicholas Stern, Professor of Economics and Government at the London School of Economics and President of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and Environment.
The objectives of this roundtable were to examine the opportunities for growth in the renewable energy sector in Spain and Europe and to assess a "roadmap" for the policies and market mechanisms needed to adapt economies to a CO2-free energy production environment, in line with the 2050 greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. It also studied the need for collaboration between Spain, the United Kingdom and other EU member states to relaunch the debate on this issue.
