History of economic analysis

By Joseph A. Schumpeter. Foreword by Fabian Estapé

On 22 November 2012, the Rafael del Pino Foundation organised an event to mark the re-publication of the book "Historia del análisis económico" by Joseph A. Schumpeter, published by Ariel.

The event was attended by:

Josep PiquéPresident of the Círculo de Economía

Pedro SchwartzProfessor Extraordinary at the University of San Pablo

Schumpeter's "History of Economic Analysis" is undoubtedly one of the fundamental books in economics and certainly in the culture of the 21st century. It is a history of the theoretical efforts made by people, from the time of ancient Greece to the 20th century, to understand economic phenomena.

As is well known, Professor Joseph Alois Schumpeter was one of the greatest contemporary economists, as well as a man of vast culture in many other disciplines, from history to philosophy, including mathematics and sociology. This enabled him to undertake the study of the analytical or scientific aspects of economic thought with an incredible wealth of erudition.

Schumpeter devoted most of his time to this colossal work at Harvard University, where he had been based since he had to leave Germany in 1932. His death prevented him from finishing it, and the book, in a very advanced state, could only be published in 1954, thanks to the joint efforts of his wife, the economist Elizabeth Boody Schumpeter, and Professor Wassily W. Leontief.
