Parag Khanna

On 1 April 2009, the Rafael del Pino Foundation hosted Parag Khanna, whose keynote lecture coincided with the presentation of his latest book "El segundo mundo. Empires and influence in the new world order", published by Paidós.

With a BA in International Relations and an MA in Security from Georgetown University, Parag Khanna served as a geopolitical advisor to the US Army Special Operations Command in 2007. From 2000 to 2007 he worked for the World Economic Forum and from 1999 to 2000 at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. He was a member of Barack Obama's Foreign Policy Advisory Council during the last presidential campaign.

In the book, Parag Khanna "shows how the situation of American dominance has suddenly been replaced by a geopolitical marketplace in which the European Union and China are competing with the United States to shape the new world order on their own terms".
