Start Up Spain

Gastronomy, leisure and tourism: between innovation and technology and University Spin-Offs

The V Start Up Spain conference, organised by the Rafael del Pino Foundation and Esade Business School, took place on 18 April 2013.

Start Up Spain is a living laboratory on startups, venture capital and entrepreneurship in Spain, a forum promoted by the Rafael del Pino Foundation and ESADE Business School.

Haute cuisine and leisure have become two of Spain's hallmarks. That is why in this fifth edition of Start Up Spain we brought together in the first panel Spanish chefs, whose culinary projects are the perfect synthesis of tradition and innovation, as well as executives from multinationals in the world of leisure and tourism, who have managed to reinvent the main industry of our country. The guests answered 2 questions: What led them to innovate and how can we boost this trend in Spain? and Is innovation behind the recent successes achieved by your companies?

The round table: "Gastronomy, leisure and tourism: between innovation and technology", moderated by Javier Santiso, counted with the participation of:

Ramon Freixa, Chef of Ramon Freixa
Marcelo Tejedor, Chef de Casa Marcelo

Paco Roncero, Chef of Casino de Madrid
Manuel Domínguez, chef at Lúa

Federico González, CEO NH Hoteles

We also brought together renowned professionals who have demonstrated through their careers their firm commitment to innovation, new technologies and entrepreneurship, along with entrepreneurs and investors who have developed start-ups that have emerged from university spin-offs. The participants also answered two questions: Is education in Spain oriented towards entrepreneurship, and what can we do to promote a denser public-private investment ecosystem around these initiatives?
