On 8 January 2014, the Rafael del Pino Foundation Fellows Association presented the 2014 Young Leadership Award to Javier García, Founder and President of RiveTechnology. The winner of this fourth edition of the award was Javier García, Founder and President of RiveTechnology.
This award is given each year to entrepreneurs and leaders under the age of 40 who have contributed, through their initiative and effort, to the improvement and advancement of society through the development of solid and innovative business projects. In its previous editions, the Prize was awarded to Jesús Encinar, founder of idealista.com, Íñigo Pirfano, Founder and Musical and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Académica de Madrid and Tomás Diago Esteva, Founder and President of Softonic.
Javier García is full professor and director of the Molecular Nanotechnology Laboratory at the University of Alicante, where he works on the manufacture of nanomaterials for energy applications. He is the inventor of 24 patents, most of them in commercial application, and author of a number of articles, books and scientific chapters. Recent publications include "Nanotechnology for the Energy Challenge" Wiley-VCH (2010) and "The Chemical Element: Chemistry Contributions to our Global Challenges" Wiley-VCH (2011).
Founder of the technology-based company RiveTechnology, which commercialises the technology he developed during his Fulbright postdoctoral stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). RiveTechnology has raised $47 million in venture capital investment and employs more than 30 people.
Vice-Chairman of the Emerging Technologies Council of the World Economic Forum in Davos, he is also a member of the Young Global Leaders Forum and the IUPAC (Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) bureau. He is an advisor to the European Commission on innovation and entrepreneurship, and an expert and evaluator of the European Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum.
