On 26 April, Javier García, professor at the Rafael del Pino Foundation, published an article in the newspaper El País on the occasion of the celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table. Recently elected president of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), García is a great defender of the historical value and present utility of chemical nomenclature. It has served to name and use "everything from the medicines that cure us to the materials that make our lives easier," he says in the article.
