The Acting Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morantannounced the recipients of the National Research Awards 2023The Spanish National Research Award, Spain's most important recognition in the field of scientific research. The Juan de la Cierva' National Research Awardin the area of Technology Transferhas been awarded to Javier García MartínezDirector of the Science and Society Chair of the Rafael del Pino Foundation.
As the Ministry explains in a press release, the Award recognises "his outstanding research and innovation career with key contributions in the field of nanomaterial chemistry, including the design and manufacture of record-breaking low temperature solar cells, new techniques for incorporating nanoporosity into catalysts and a new synthetic route for the production of multifunctional nanomaterials.
In addition to his involvement at the head of the Rafael del Pino Foundation Chair in Science and SocietyJavier García Martínez is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Alicante. International Chemical Union (IUPAC) and the Young Academy of Spain, is a member of the World Economic Forum's Emerging Technologies Committee and is also a successful technology-based entrepreneur.
Diana Morant said that these awards "highlight scientists and scientists who, through their work, contribute to the advancement of science and therefore to a better life for society". The National Research Awards, worth 30,000 euros in each category, distinguish those researchers in Spain who stand out for their careers and international relevance in their respective areas of research. They also recognise the merit of young people - with a maximum age of 40 - who have made significant achievements in the early stages of their careers.
Precisely, the 'Ángela Ruiz Robles' National Research Prize for Young People, in the area of Technology Transfer, has been awarded to Gonzalo Murillo Rodríguez for the quality and originality of its scientific production and its transfer and dissemination. The jury highlights his contribution to the generation of knowledge and transfer in the field of the use of electromechanical nanogenerators, as well as environmental energy recovery and smart materials. Murillo is a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona of the CSIC.
As for the other winners, the National Research Prize 'Santiago Ramón y Cajal', in the field of Biology, has been awarded to José López Barneoand the Margarita Salas National Research Award for Young People, in the area of Biology, has gone to Miguel Ángel Mompeán García.
Francisco Javier Llorca Martínez is the new 'Leonardo Torres Quevedo' National Research Award, in the area of Engineering and Architecture, and Daniel García González the 'Matilde Ucelay' National Research Award for Young People, in the area of Engineering and Architecture.
The 'Ramón Menéndez Pidal' National Research Prize, in the area of Humanities, goes to Felipe Criado Boadoand the National Research Prize for Young People 'María Moliner', in the area of Humanities, to Idoia Murga Castro.
The new 'Gregorio Marañón' National Research Award, in the field of Medicine and Health Sciences, is Luis Enjuanes Sánchezand the new 'Gabriella Morreale' National Youth Research Award in the field of Medicine and Health Sciences, Rodrigo Fernández Jiménez.
The 'Alejandro Malaspina' National Research Prize, in the area of Material Resources Sciences and Technologies, has been awarded to Josep Peñuelas Reixachand the 'Ángeles Alvariño' National Research Prize for Young People, in the area of Material Resources Science and Technology, to Marta Martínez Sanz.
The 'Blas Cabrera' National Research Prize, in the area of Physical, Materials and Earth Sciences, has been awarded to Ángel Rubio Secadesand the 'Felisa Martín Bravo' National Research Award for Young People, in the area of Physical, Materials and Earth Sciences, in Francisco Pelayo García de Arquer.
The 'Enrique Moles' National Research Prize, in the area of Chemical Science and Technologies, has been awarded to Jesús Jiménez Barberoand the 'María Teresa Toral' National Research Award for Young People, in the area of Chemical Science and Technology, to Silvia Osuna Oliveras.
The National Research Award 'Julio Rey Pastor', in the area of Mathematics and Information and Communications Technologies, recognises Diego Córdoba Gazolazand the 'María Andresa Casamayor' National Research Prize for Young People, in the area of Mathematics and Information and Communications Technologies, to Xavier Ros Otón.
Finally, the 'Pascual Madoz' National Research Prize, in the area of Law and Economic and Social Sciences, has been awarded to Manuel Arellano Gonzálezand the 'Clara Campoamor' National Research Award for Young People, in the area of Law and Economic and Social Sciences, to Mónica Martínez Bravo.
