The director of the Chair in Science and Society joins the Ministry's Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has announced the appointment of Javier García Martínez to the CACTI, with a mandate that will last until October 2029.

The Director of the Chair of Science and Society of the Rafael del Pino Foundation, Javier García Martínez, has joined the Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (CACTI) as “Representative of the Scientific, Technological and Innovation Community”.

His term of office will run until October 2029, as will that of the other new members of the body over which he presides. Laura Olcina representing Spanish science: Mónica López Fanarraga, Carlos Balaguer Bernaldo de Quirós, Ana María Diez Pascual and Rocío Arroyo Arranz.

Javier García's appointment has been made on the basis of the criteria included in the “Expression of Interest for the appointment of new members of the CACTI”, published in September. These include the following merits scientific, technological or innovative; the prestige recognition and awards; the experience in scientific management and strategic advice; and the contribution innovation and knowledge transfer.

The CACTI is the body for the participation of the scientific and technological community and economic and social agents in matters related to science, technology and innovation. Its members include, in addition to scientists, distinguished personalities appointed by CCOO, UGT, CEOE y Cepyme, as well as representatives of civil society and the R&D world.

Among the main functions of the CACTI are to provide advice to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities in the elaboration of the proposals of the Spanish Science and Technology and Innovation Strategy (EECTI) and of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation

The CACTI also proposes, on its own initiative, objectives and modifications for incorporation into these instruments and monitors their further development through annual reports. It also advises the governments of the State and of the Autonomous Communities and to the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation Policy in the exercise of their functions, and to report on such matters as they may determine.
