Professor Schwartz's main lines of research are as follows: "Democratic Capitalism: Progress and Paradox", a complete rewriting in English of his work "In Search of Montesquieu. Democracy in Peril" (2007), with special attention to the economic crisis between 2007 and 2014; edition of the "Iberian Writings of Jeremiah Bentham", works and correspondence of this author related to Spain, Portugal and Latin America; and "Free banking in Spain (1856-1875)", a study of the period of free competition in the issuance of banknotes in Spain.
