On 21 December 2005, the Foundation signed a research agreement with Professor Francisco Beltrán Adell, from the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the Autonomous University of Madrid, with the aim of analysing the social reality and Spanish and European policies in a global context, using a normative, comparative perspective and recovering a political discussion ground and a common language that respects the existing differences between the various ideological positions but allows for a rational dialogue between them.
In his research, Professor Beltrán has developed the areas of analysis that could lead to a debate in Spanish society such as the one described above, and which could form the basis of future work by the Foundation's Public Space Observatory. These include the following: Values and politics in Europe and the United States; Youth, education and work in Spain; Nationalism, left and liberalism; Fear in contemporary societies; Economics and politics of fiscal adjustments; Immigration, multiculturalism and liberal institutions; Foreign policy and the promotion of democracy and the Rule of Law.
