The Rafael del Pino Foundation awarded a Rafael del Pino Chair to sociologist Amando de Miguel at the University of Texas at San Antonio (USA). According to the agreement signed, the objective of the Chair was the development by Professor de Miguel of a research project under the title "The Spanish of today and tomorrow", in the context of his teaching period at that University as a visiting professor in 2008.
The Rafael del Pino Foundation created the Rafael del Pino Chairs in 2002, aimed at Spanish or foreign professors of recognised prestige with international experience who, as a general rule, enjoy a sabbatical year. These Chairs are not assigned to any specific centre, but to a professor who chooses the centre where he/she wishes to carry out his/her activities.
The aim of the Rafael del Pino Chairs is to offer financial support to their recipients, complementary to the remuneration offered by their university. The Rafael del Pino Chair must carry out first-rate research which, in principle, must be published in English by a commercial publisher, while its publication in Spanish is part of the Foundation's own series of publications.
