Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, a law graduate and Spanish politician from the Partido Popular, was appointed to replace José Ignacio Wert as Minister of Education in 2015. A year later, and following the appointment of Mariano Rajoy's Executive in November 2016, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo y Montojo became the Popular Party's Minister of Education, Culture and Sport until June 2018.

After studying at the German School in Madrid and the British Institute School, Méndez de Vigo obtained his law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has combined his work as a law professor with his multiple public posts.

Méndez de Vigo has a large number of awards to his credit, from prizes related to national journalism to distinctions and decorations in other countries.
