The Rafael del Pino Foundation awarded two research grants to Felipe Fernández-Armesto and Manuel Lucena Giraldo with the aim of contributing to research on the infrastructure of the Spanish Empire between 1519 and 1898, with a renewed focus to highlight the intense promotion work carried out by Spain in the Americas and its contribution to the introduction of the main advances in science and technology in the territories of the Spanish Crown in America. This research took the form of a book, in English and Spanish, titled An empire of engineers published in Spanish in May 2022. The English version will be published in the first half of 2023.
