The Rafael del Pino Foundation, first in collaboration with the Nebrija Foundation and later with the CISE, has participated in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM Spain) project for the study of entrepreneurship. The study began in 2012 and continues to the present day.
GEM is an annual observatory of entrepreneurial activity. Its main mission is to provide data on the measurement of the rate of entrepreneurial activity, as well as a broad description of its characteristics, its relationship with economic development and a diagnosis of the state of the main institutional or environmental conditions for entrepreneurship.
The GEM observatory has been providing data since 1999, having demonstrated the influence of entrepreneurship on economic development and enriched the academic field with a multitude of articles and scientific papers published in indexed journals. Since its creation, there is no doubt that we can speak of a before and after in its implementation, given that the figure of the entrepreneur and his or her study and dissemination have experienced an unprecedented boost.
Entrepreneurship-related institutions and actors in all participating countries and regions have been provided with quality information and indicators that have enabled previously unparalleled progress in supporting entrepreneurship. The time series and comparisons between different types of economies and cultural backgrounds are also of great value for understanding and learning about the mechanisms that articulate entrepreneurship.
In the 2018-2019 financial year, the GEM report, in addition to analysing all the indicators of the entrepreneurial sector, focuses its monographic activity on entrepreneurial activity from idea to reality, as well as on business creation and growth: GEM SPAIN Report 2018-2019.
