The research project Macroeconomic modelling and regional economics is funded by the Rafael del Pino Foundation and BBVA. The project is supported by the State Secretariat for Budgets and Expenditure of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations and the State Secretariat for Economy and Business Support of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

The main result of the research has been the development of the REMS model - the REMS model.Rational Expectations Model for the Spanish Economy-. This model allows the study of the consequences of a wide range of economic policy measures, permanent or transitory and realised or expected. It is particularly appropriate for studying the effects of fiscal policy (with a high degree of detail on tax rates), monetary policy, energy policy, labour policy and trade policy.

In addition to contributing to improving knowledge about the Spanish economy, the series included in the database constitute the statistical basis for macroeconomic modelling. This research project, led mainly by researchers Javier Ferri, José Emilio Boscá, Rafael Doménech, Ángel de la Lafuente, Juan Varela and José Ramón García, was joined in 2012 by BBVA Research.

The database and the results of the model materialised in the book "The Spanish Economy" published by Palgrave Macmillan.
