Improvements in education statistics now make it possible to have a better understanding of the structure of the education system and its evolution in recent decades, as well as to carry out comparative studies that facilitate the analysis of the relative performance of each country in terms of education and the evolution of inter-regional education disparities.

This space includes the annual data series on the educational level of the population for Spain and its regions, as well as for a sample of 22 OECD countries, during the period 1960-2011, carried out by teachers Ángel de la Fuente and Rafael Doménech.

Here are included the databases and their corresponding analyses of annual series of the educational level of the adult population for Spain and its regions during the period 1960-2011 using the information provided by the population censuses. Also included is the series for 22 OECD countries for the period 1960-2010. The educational levels considered are illiterates; primary education; the two cycles of secondary education; and the first two cycles of higher education. Using the breakdown of the population by educational level and the theoretical duration of these, a series of average years of schooling of the adult population is also constructed.
